Armero was a town distroyed by the mud. The 13 of November of 1985 the Armero mud volcano erupted, covering with mud all the town. The eruption was unexpected so that no one was prepared for it, so there werent precautions measures. The event took 23 000 lives, a lot of people were covered by the mud and died drowned, or were trapped by the ruins so that they died of starvation.
The story that has become the symbol of the tragedy is the dead of Omaira, a little girl with the leggs trapped that died because there wasnt a way to take her off the mud. Omaira was a 13 year old girl whose last hours of life were transmitted on televison while she was trapped above the bodies of her family. Her story moved us all Colombia and other countries that were seeing too. But Omaira wasnt the only one that died, with her died over 23 000 more people.
The last 13th of November was the 25th aniversary of the tragedy that we remember with sadness, and we expect that Armero one day will be the same as it was before the accident.
